Speaker: Recent Developments in Compensation Statistics

Martin shared a ton of useful info stating that the BLS is in the business of gathering info from the labor market so people can make better decisions. He referred to the BLS as a fact finding agency for the federal government, however it is an independent agency. He stated the mission of the BLS is to collect, process, analyze, and disseminate essential info.

Martin discussed recent labor market developments that reflect the continuation of the recovery, the aging of the population, strong business spending on information technologies, and increases in state minimum wages. He highlighted the implications of these trends and discussed which industries have seen the largest increases in employment and wages, both nationally and locally. He also shared information on which demographic groups are seeing accelerating wage increases, and what factors have been driving increases in benefit costs.

It was an very informative presentation.

Carolyn Broderick, head of the Certification Committee, gave thanks to the members who volunteer their time to help facilitate the Study Group. Thanks to: Rich Cino, Bob Kane, Mark Kremen, Joan Plichta, Lou Melillo, Don McDermott, and Eveline Brownstein
