Jennifer Myer Mahoney shared that June is LGBTQ Pride Month. Pride month was first started almost 50 years ago when the Stone Wall riots took place in NY on June 28, 1969. There are lots of resources available to answer questions or for those who wish to put together presentations for their organizations.

    Legal Minute
Kelly Gunther of Jackson Lewis shared bill #121 was just passed in NJ that bars provisions in employment contracts that waive rights or remedies; bars agreements that conceal details relating to discrimination claims. You can read more about the bill HERE. You can learn more about Jackson Lewis HERE.

    June 14th is Flag Day
After standing for the Pledge of Allegiance, Marti Bookstein lead us in a chorus of “You’re a Grand Ole Flag” followed by an amazing performance of “Star Spangled Banner”.

    Presentation
Stretch for Success / Rhea O’Connor, Physical Therapy Manager for Meridian Occupational Health

In this interactive presentation, Rhea shared safe posture techniques and some easy to implement tips for performing work related tasks. We learned many useful tips, some of which are summarized below:

    • your keyboard should be flat and not raised on an angle to prevent your wrists from flexing and
    • your monitor should be kept at an arm’s length away
    • your mouse should fit your hand size – they come in all different sizes
    • when you stop keyboarding or using your mouse, get into the habit of dropping your hands to your lap to give all your muscles a rest
    • arrange frequently used items close to you
    • if you are going to stand for long periods of time, shift your weight from side to side, lift your legs frequently, walk around a bit, use a foot rest
    • when texting (or using handheld devices) hold your phone high enough so you limit leaning your head forward to avoid putting too much pressure on your neck
    • what’s the best position? The next position, the body should always be moving.

Next Meeting is September 13, 2018. Enjoy the summer break.
