December 2017 Meeting

The December meeting opened with some general announcements:

    • We started a monthly question. Each month we will email the members an HR related question. The answers will be summarized and shared at each meeting.
    • Remember to renew your SHRM Membership if you haven’t already done so. It helps our chapter as well as giving you all the benefits of membership.
    • The chapter website will be getting a facelift. In addition, we will be putting an emphasis on marketing the JSAHR. Watch for emails in the upcoming months asking for your input and feedback. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Legal Minute
The legal minute, presented by Rich Cino, addressed using internet advertising for job openings, specifically when using Facebook. Posting very specific job requirements could trigger adverse actions. If this is something you do in your organization, it might be prudent to check into the best practices for posting jobs on Facebook.

    Speaker
Clair Chandler, President of Talent Boost talked about Reigniting Your Passion for your Work.

Here are a few takeaways that may help you rekindle your passion.

    Step One:
Find your why. (Check out Simon Sinek, author of Start with Why, Leaders Eat Last)

Ask yourself: Why did you get into HR?

Ask yourself: What is your mission statement?

    Step Two:
    Identify your What.

List what you do as part of your current role.

Identify what activities put you “in the zone”

What are you good at? What are your strengths?

    Step Three:
Choose your How using your A-B-C’s. Move your What to your Why.

A – Choose your Attitude: get into a good mood

B- Choose your Behavior (habits): get into a positive mindset

C – Choose your Conditions / Conversations: Conditions = Circumstances: connect to your why with everything you do. Conversations =Progress: amplify the right voices.

Members can get a copy of the slides for this presentation under the Meetings Presentations tab on the website.

Remember to fill out your surveys so that you get your attendance certificate.
